Details

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.’s Performance Damper® is set up in the HKS style to achieve optimal performance for each specific vehicle. By significantly reducing body flex and unwanted play caused by external input forces, it enhances overall handling performance. The result is handling that is both smooth and sharp, allowing the driver to precisely trace their intended line while enjoying a confident and comfortable cruising experience. In addition, the Performance Damper® suppresses micro-vibrations generated by the road surface and tires that are transmitted through the vehicle’s frame, reducing vibration and noise pressure inside the cabin. This leads to improved interior quietness and creates a more refined, comfortable cabin environment, even during extended driving.

Basic Structure

Performance Dampers are designed and developed based on high-pressure nitrogen gas-charged oil dampers used in suspensions, but there is a huge difference in their amount of displacement. Normal oil dampers have displacement on a centimeter scale, while Performance Dampers are on a micrometer scale. Various innovations have been made to optimize performance with a very small amount of displacement.

Performance Damper Damping Force Characteristics

  1. Improved ultra-low piston speed characteristics (effective on minute displacement of chassis)
  2. Cancellation of gas reaction force (eliminates pressurization on the chassis)
  3. Optimization of damping properties (saturation characteristics)
